How to Avoid Facial Spider Veins

Thread Veins on the Face

Spider veins are those tiny little red lines that appear on the face. Also referred to as thread veins or broken capillaries.

Once they’ve appeared, they tend not to go away of their own accord.

As with so many things in life, prevention is better than treatment.

So how can you avoid getting spider veins in the first place?

Preventing Spider Veins

To avoid spider veins, the key is to understand the main causes and put in place preventative actions:

  1. Sun exposure:
Over exposure to the sun has a number of consequences on the skin and one of those is an increased risk of spider veins and thread veins
  2. Alcohol:
Alcohol can be a significant factor in the development of spider veins on the face, as it opens up the blood vessels and puts them at risk of bursting, leaving permanent spider veins
  3. Smoking:
If you are a smoker, then there are a great many health risks attached. Spider veins is one of the more cosmetic ones. Stopping or cutting down is really the best thing you can do for yourself
  4. Ageing:
Spider veins tend to appear and increase with age. There isn’t too much we can do about that, but avoiding the other risk factors will help to reduce the likelihood of getting spider veins
  5. Genetic tendency:
If your mother or father had spider veins, you may also be more susceptible. Again, avoiding the risk factors that you can influence will still help to reduce the overall risk
  6. Injury/trauma:
If the skin is damaged then there is a possibility that this may also damage the vein structure, leaving spider veins
  7. Hormones:
Certain hormonal surges – such as pregnancy or menopause – increase the likelihood of spider veins emerging
  8. Skin type/condition:
There are certain skin types which are more prone to spider veins

Some of the risk factors are out of your control. You can’t change the skin you were born with or change genetic tendency. However, focusing on the risk factors that you CAN control (sun, smoking and alcohol) will reduce the overall risk of spider veins occurring.

Spider Vein Treatment

Spider veins and facial thread veins are hard to hide, but they can now be treated in skin and vein clinics using advanced laser technology.

Cosmedics Skin Clinics’ main London Vein Treatment Centre has the sophisticated Harmony XL Pro laser machine, which provides a gentle and effective treatment for spider veins on the face.

Harmony XL Pro Laser treatment targets problem capillaries, vessels or veins with targeted laser energy. This damages the veins so that they shrink, shrivel up and then disappear. Laser energy also works to stimulate healing and cell renewal in the treated area for clearer-looking skin.
