Angioma – Persistent Red Blood Blister Spot
If you have a persistent red spot on your skin, then it may be an angioma – a ‘blood blister’ caused by spider veins and tiny vessels.
These red blemishes can look quite ‘angry’ and unpleasant, like red moles. However, there’s nothing to be worried about, angiomas are not medically harmful, just unsightly.
Having said that, if you do have any concerns that it is a worrying mole or something ‘suspicious’, then it’s always best to get it checked out.
What is angioma?
An angioma is a small growth or lump caused by blood vessels. It is a vascular condition and not cancerous.
They can appear anywhere on the skin – face or body – and are more common with age. Cherry haemangioma are a type of angioma which are bright red spots.
The most common reason for getting angioma removed is cosmetic, as they can be quite noticeable and patients prefer to get rid of them. Unfortunately, treatment for ‘cosmetic’ issues is very limited on the NHS, so private treatment is often the only option. This can be arranged in specialist private clinics like the London Vein Centre, where experienced doctors offer angioma removal treatment with no waiting lists. The team use special techniques to minimise discomfort and scarring.
Angioma can be removed in a number of ways:
- The latest Nd:Yag laser treatment
- Micro-cautery laser
- Surgical removal with our skilled and experienced doctors and surgeons is a last resort option for larger angiomas (or where other treatment options are not appropriate)
As our doctors are also skilled in mole removal, they can perform accurate diagnosis and can also arrange testing of the lesion when it has been removed where required or recommended.
